Legacy: Are you leaving the one you want?

What are some words that OTHERS use to describe you?

she-is-clothed-proverbs-31-25-taylan-soyturkHow do you want to be remembered? Does it matter to you? As a wife, mother and grandmother, the legacy I leave my family is very important to me.

In different stages of life, we think about what is urgent at the time. In my 20s, it was work, school and raising my son and daughter. In my 30s, I had a career, teens and a parent who needed me. I started over again and had a son at 38, imagine that. Oh yes, my 40s, a time of preparation. Now, I’m in my 50s (51 to be exact) and this is the best time of my life!!

I did gloss over an abusive relationship with the father of my children which lasted a lifetime. During that time, I did manage to obtain 3 college degrees and raise wonderful children who continue to bless me every day.

In 2014, I changed my story and moved an hour away from where I was born and raised. That decision changed my life.  It allowed me to discover who I was as a person; not a mother or employee. The two roles that defined me as a person my entire life. In 2015, I added a new role that I am loving: wife.

Today, I want to be remembered as loving wife committed to my husband; a mother who stood on principles and was able to survive the worst of times while shining my light preparing for the best to come. I want my grandbabies to remember the blankets I crochet, popsicles and all-nighters, and the special notes we share.

In the end, life is truly about relationships and I hope to add value to each person I come in contact with.

Free To Choose

Greetings, I hope all is well in your world. I’ve been supper busy!

The school year started with my son going to back to the school building. He was doing well for a moment, but, the stimulus and anxiety was too much for him to manage. He had great days and stressful days. He is managing mental health and physical health challenges. I’ve picked up my Learning Coach hat once again so that we can complete 8th grade.

As if being a teen isn’t enough to cause anxiety, children on the ASD spectrum struggle with an heighten sensibility. My son will be  participating in group sessions 30 minutes a day with a teacher and 3- 5 other students. Even though he is in the comfort of his home, the anxiety of being in a study setting with other students causes anxiety. His teacher told me that the groups are always small because, of course, all of the students are suffering from the same anxiety.

We are grateful for the freedom to choose this educational option.

What freedoms are you choosing in  your life? Sometimes it may feel like we have no choices. It is easy to get trapped in life patterns; making choices based on society and culture. In order to see the freedoms you have and the unique choices you can make, you must make an effort to investigate your desires, dreams and distant hopes.

Make today count! Explore your freedom and choices.

What are You Sowing Today?

Life is truly an adventure and once again I find myself on the beginning of another exciting and challenging voyage. For almost a year, I’ve focused on my personal relationship with The Most High and that energy has opened doors and established relationships that I’ve never dreamed would be a part of my life and my everyday existence. In the past I’ve shared with you about the importance of recreating yourself, finding your purpose, and living authentically. Not only did I suggest that to you, I listened and find myself in the most enlightened position ever.

My sister and I (yes we are still a blogging team) have been focusing our energies on a shared project of using our energy, time, talents and gifts to bless the lives of others . We are being led to serve women/men who are coming out of prison. The needs are great, and each person has an opportunity to play a small part in what can be tremendously large in someone’s life who is readjusting to society.

“Reentry interventions—programs designed to help people readjust to society following their release from jail and prison—are one promising strategy. Former inmates often face complex challenges after release and experience an increased risk of homelessness, unemployment, addiction, and trauma. Difficulty accessing housing, jobs, and treatment services puts this population at a high risk of reoffending, creating a self-perpetuating cycle.” (https://jpalnorthamerica.org/2017/05/05/stopping-the-revolving-door-what-we-know-and-still-need-to-learn-about-reducing-recidivism-in-the-united-states/)

We are equipped and desire to connect the pieces; we are ready to make done things happen. Our passions and lifetimes of experience have prepared us for such a time as this. Sowing into the lives of others also plays into another project on the horizon of “how do you want to be remembered: what will be your legacy“. That is for another blog.

I will leave you with this thought today.  How are you sowing into the life of someone you do not know?

I’m a Mother, Wife, and Learning Coach?

In my life time, I’ve held many titles, now I am thrilled to add Learning Coach. In a previous blog I shared with you about my son who has Autism and about our exciting journey in life.

We’ve taken a new turn onto Home Schooling Avenue. We have jumped on and off of Main Street so many times, till taking this detour doesn’t seem strange or out of sorts for us.

My 13 year old, who loves Pokemon, Lego and video games is like most boys his age, except for health issues that have made us yield his education and sometimes his health has brought us to a complete stop!

This adventure is proving to be the most exciting yet. We are part of Great Lakes Cyber Academy and for the first time since DeAndre started his educational career he is enjoying learning. His program was created based on his IEP with us focusing on Math, Language Arts, and  Health and Physical Education. Our desire to home school was based on health challenges and my personal desire to know what type of education he was receiving.

The numbers show we are not alone.

Homeschool Demographics 2016

Chart Courtesy of: http://a2zhomeschooling.com/thoughts_opinions_home_school/numbers_homeschooled_students/

Three percent of American students — about 1.5 million children — are home schooled, according to the 2012 Statistical Abstract recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

As parents, we only have one time to prepare our children for adulthood. I, along with others, feel that this investment and at times sacrifice is critical for success.

Walking in Your Pupose

Greetings!

Yes it has been a while since you’ve heard from Celebrating Life Anew. My sister, Tisha and I are continuing to celebrate life and enjoy the journey.

We are excited to share that we are venturing into a new adventure. As sisters, we have collaborated over the years on different projects and now we have a project that is bigger than us, but heavy on our hearts.

As “Sisters in Service” we are on mission to do our part during these troubling times. The world is filled with so much adversity and as women, it is critical that we be a part of  helping our communities. Unfortunately, so many women are stagnated by situations of abuse that happened to us children or women. We pick up the pieces, put on a smile and carry on day in and day out. We could do more, but the baggage weighs us down. We are not sure how to release so that we can live our purpose and make greater contributions to our families and others in our circles.

Over the next few months, we will share with you our plan to design an outlet for women using writing as a tool to heal. Your feedback, and suggestions are welcome.

“Writing about an emotionally charged subject or an unresolved trauma helps you put the event into perspective and give some structure and organization to those anxious feelings, which ultimately helps you get through it,” notes James Pennebaker, a professor of psychology at The University of Texas–Austin and co-author of the new book “Opening Up by Writing it Down: How Expressive Writing Improves Health and Eases Emotional Pain.” “This can help people sleep better, feel and think better, and have richer social lives, all of which can bolster immune function and improve health.”

As always thank you for taking a moment to connect with us!

Autism and Adrenal Stress

An autism spectrum disorder (ASD) places the individual, the parents, and siblings under enormous adrenal stress.  Prolonged periods of stress can fatigue your adrenal glands, resulting in biochemical and cellular changes which can affect many body systems, including immune function, blood sugar balance, energy production, thyroid function and hormone balance. The main purpose of the adrenal glands is to respond to stress and is known as the “fight or flight” response. These glands react to every kind of stress whether physical, emotional, psychological, hormonal, thermal, or biochemical.   The function of every tissue, organ and gland in our body is affected by adrenal hormones.

The adrenals are two small glands, each weighing 3 to 5 grams, located above the kidneys, and are composed of two separate functional entities, each responsible for producing and releasing specific stress hormones. The outer…

Stop!!! Do not make a New Year’s Resolution

Happy 2015!!! It has been a while since we’ve chatting and I hope all is well with you. I am thrilled to see a new year. The excitement that builds up new year’s eve is unlike any other isn’t it? Watching time change. One year passing and another entering. A new year can bring on feelings of rejuvenation, fresh starts, hope and promise.

Should we wait for a new year to experience all that a new day has to offer? A new year’s resolution is exciting in the beginning then by March and certainly by the summer that new feeling is long gone.

I suggest we make daily commitments to rejoice every morning we rise. Can you get excited at night when you lie down to rest at the thought of rising the next day to experience all the day has to offer?

Seize the dayI suggest that we carpe diem!! Seize the Day! Once we choose to live authentically, every moment will count and we will begin to place an higher value on our time. What do you do with items that you hold in high esteem? They are precious, you tend to view them differently and want to protect them.

I suggest that we guard our time and truly embrace the value of each moment we have to live an exciting life. I would love to hear what are some commitments you’ve made to live a more fulfilling life.
